IECSS in action!

The IECSS in Action! study is part of the larger Inclusive Early Childhood Service System (IECSS) project and is funded by Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC).  The IECSS in Action! study aims to identify inclusion strategies that recognize the systemic and cultural factors that shape the actual context in which services are delivered.

IECSS in Action! has partnered with 7 organizations throughout Ontario and British Columbia to participate in this study:

•   Comox Valley Child Development Association in Comox Valley, British Columbia

•    Family Place in Powell River, British Columbia

•    Gerrard Resource Centre in Toronto, Ontario (page 2)

•    Native Child and Family Services of Toronto in Toronto, Ontario

•    Niwasa Kendaaswin Teg in Hamilton, Ontario

•    County of Wellington in Palmerston, Ontario

•    Temiskaming Native Women’s Support Group in Temiskaming Shores, Ontario

The IECSS in Action! study recognizes that the experiences and perspectives of frontline staff are crucial to identify the structural barriers to inclusion that staff might encounter when supporting clients accessing care. By participating in this study, frontline staff will help to develop a better understanding of the strategies that can reduce or eliminate structural barriers to inclusion and how to develop more inclusive practices and settings for children and families.

The Emergency Child Care program at the Gerrard Rsource Centre is designed to support parents who need time to address emergency situations, attend to health-related issues, attend leagal or housing appointments or parent relief. Emergency child care also aims to provide programs that are affordable, accessible, flexible and inclusive. In 2019, funding provided by the Social Development Partnership Program will also enable the GRC to create spaces for families and children experiencing disabilities. Children ages 0-6 years. All families welcome.
Childcare is available for families who may need a few hours off in order to address issues, or for parental relief during times of stress and crisis.
